Although Josh Freese has played the drums for the upcoming album, do you think Pete Parada will contribute to the new album in one way or another, seen the fact that they are still working on it. Or will he only be touring with the band and not appear in the studio? I haven't seen him once on the webcam for instance...

I think Freese will do all the songs on the new album, and I doubt that Parada will stick around for their ninth album, so Parada is just a tour-drummer.

Dexter usually writes all parts of the songs anyway.

The last time anything interesting happened to the drums was in Americana. I can't think of any more recent songs with even mildly unstandard drum parts.

I don't agree at 100%. It's true that most of the songs have standard drumming (and to clarify immidiatly it's cool and it always fits good) but the noose, long way home, lighting rod and race against myself have all some good "midly unstandard" drum parts.
Anyway I'd like to hear some cool josh freese's stuff in the next album :)

a lot of people say that but i think too much is read into it in terms of the drums. he does dictate how things sound but doesnt literally write the parts, as main songwriter he just knows what he wants.
as far as we know josh is recording all the drums and i cant see pete changing any of the parts when he plays them!

Don't compare Dex with "dumbass face" Grohl
And, and interesting drum parts for me, are in conspiracy preciselye in conspiracy of one song, come out swinging and denial revisited

dave grohl maybe a dumbass face, but he's a fucking incredible musician. Don't compare two people who have really nothing in common. By the way he once played with the Offspring. I remember reading somewhere he pleyed percussions during original prankster during a show

I don't because it wasn't wirtten. It was a Dave grohl interview. It should be some festival in the co1 era.

Never heard of Grohl playing with them, but Noodles said in one of his journals way back, that Chad Smith from the Red Hot Chilli Peppers joined them on a couple songs at some festival or whatever it was.
