View Full Version : Girls who write poetry - a must read for all

It's understood that all girls write poetry. At least, those who don't are more of a minority then Native Americans in the saharah desert, aren't aren't included in general census.
That being said, I've come to a conclusion. The lamest girls constantly talk about their poetry and share their poetry with anyone who's willing to read it, define themselves by their poetry, and act really annoying about their poetry. Poetry written by these girls usually tends to be crap.
The not-so-lame girls share will admit they write poetry, but they won't bring it up constantly and will only share their poetry with trusted friends and people who want to see it. Their poetry can be anywhere from mediocre to good.
The awesomest girls, ie, the ones I'd marry, will rarely even admit they write poetry, but if they do they'll dismiss it as meaningless and will never show it to anyone except, MAYBE, guys they've been dating for over a year (since these girls have strong character, they're hard to get and this is no easy feat to accomplish). Their poetry is among the best poetry there is.

I guess that makes me part of the minority who doesn't write poetry at all, and never has.

Seriously Sic, Sometimes it hurts to read your posts. Random words appear out of nowhere in the middle of sentences and such. And girls who don't pimp their poetry are just as likely to write shitty poems.

Intelligent responces please - with an exception of Nicole, who's reply seemed perfectly legitimate, these categories just don't apply to you I guess, but out of curiosity, you've categorically decided never to write poetry? Why's this?

interesting thought. maybe generally seeing not far from true, too. there are always exceptions that confirm a statement.

I don't write poetry. Why? Because I'm a straight-to-the-point type person and don't feel that a poetry medium would work for me. I suppose there's always free verse, but I don't do the symbolism/images/etc either so it would just end up being some sort of prose.
That said, I don't have a journal either. Why? Probably cause I don't feel that I have the time, and would rarely actually want to write in it. When I do want to write my thoughts, I will usually do so in the form of a letter, which I will or will not send. But that's not very often. Otherwise, I like to have conversations to express my thoughts. Or just keep it all inside, I guess.

The only times I write poetry are when my teacher makes me, and when I’m extremely bored or I just feel like it. I don't share it, because I know most of it sucks. I don't even talk about it. I got an A the last time I wrote a poem in my class, which was last year. The poem was about pirates and amusement parks. I pulled it off by saying it was a metaphor.

High school wrecks poetry. And I've spent so much of my time joking about terrible goth poetry that I'd be a big hypocrite if I ever engaged in it myself.
I do write occasionally, just not that style of writing.

haha, that`s a nice poetry tripboy
well, i have written a few poems and never shared
it with ANYBODY. (there was one exception, and that
person even posted in this topic, lets see if the
person remembers, ha). i am not saying i do it every
single day, but 15 "serious" ones i must have written
so far. how come thats not on option, either?

Saying the ones that never tell anyone write good poetry is nonsense. If I were a girl and writing poetry, I'd be crap. If I were crap, I wouldn't let anyone know i was writing anything at all, but still go on just because i like it.
exactly. thats what i do. haha.
you are boring, cant you just come up with something
better, or at least something NEW? oh, and unlike you,
i know exactly what my flaws are, and what you
mentioned is definitely not one of them. now you shut
up, you annoy almost everybody on this board.

I used to write it. I rarely do now. And my friends have seen the 2% I thought were relatively readable. I still wouldn't be so sure into which category I belong to.
The show-off category I can agree with.

Well i write poetry and never show it to people but, i do not see why it is a stupid things to do somtimes it inspires people i mean i love to read my friends poetry i might be a girl but, he loves to read peoples poetry too. I mean there is nothing wrong with it. It shows that u are not a heartless person even if ur poem is mean it shows u put time into sorting out your problems and its a good thing to sort out ur problems rather the just keep them inside and when u show someone ur poetry it is nice to hear they're feed bac!
so Nina, why is it that you have line breaks halfway the page?
because it is easier to read in my opinion. but since
hardly anybody agrees with me on that, i have another
reason for you: because i think it looks good that way.
mwhah. see, its so easy. why do you need to wonder
for hours if you can simply ask me? meh.
