I doubt that is really Noodles, anyways Im suprised so many Green Day fans bash the Offspring, Green Day just has the spot light right now but ever since after Dookie the Offspring have been way bigger and more successful (till American Idiot of course).I mean I love Green Day but all their Cds are VERY similar except Warning. American Idiot is practically Nimrod with a dash of politics and a "story" that got it alot of press. Offspring at least changes things up, Dexter is much more creative than Billie IMO. But I will conceed that I like American Idiot a bit more than Splinter, but any other Offspring CD beats out Green Day with ease.

i like em both and say they both have some different stuff in each of their cds and have moments of very awesome creativity, but the offspring song wise have always been written much better...i think american idiot is extremely creative and well written, but id say the offspring overall have always written better lyrics and songs...smash was big before dookie anyway.

The funny thing is reading through the replies.

First you get "Offspring Suck"

Then you get "Yeh, I've heard Pretty Fly"

It's like when you meet the apparent "Offspring's biggest fan" at a show. They say something along the lines of "Yeah, Offspring are my favourite band, Pretty Fly is my favourite song!"

Then you wait for the reply when you ask what their favourite song is from Self Titled or Ignition....

Yeah i totally noticed the similarities between self titled and Americana. American Idiot is more mainstream than anything 50 cent coulda pulled out his ass. this green day thread is really really interesting. everything these people are saying about offspring is what i always say about green day. it's pretty amazing considering that back in the early 90's, the two bands had pretty much EXACTLY the same fan base. wow.

And to think of all the good things we say about Greenday on this board...
I had no idea so many Greenday fans hated us and The Offspring. I do have to agree, The Offspring have changed over the years, and have put out some not-so-great songs and albums, but Greenday isn't any better. Greenday has put out waaaay more stuff that sounds the same than Offspring has. And the number of albums sold dosen't necessarily determine the quality of the music.
I like Greenday, I just think The Offspring are better.

second, i read the last page of the thread on there, and there was one seemingly cool guy who said the offspring were good and their story was similar to greenday's starting out on a small label and all blah blah blah, but he said that greenday's first independent label was much smaller than the offsprings.. but he mentioned the offspring's first one was epitaph. maybe if he compared the REAL first independent label the offspring had..

Green Day was HUGE in 1994, and sold twice as many albums as the Offspring. The Offspring's Smash sold four million, not nine million, first of all...and why are you comparing Smash with American Idiot? If you want to compare latest release, let's compare American Idiot with Splinter...how many has Splinter sold, 200k? Pathetic. Dookie's sold 17 million worldwide since its release, shut the hell up already. Oh, and learn to type.

I have both Smash and Dookie, and anyone that says that Dookie is better then Smash, is a total fucking idiot. Even Green Day's most hardcore fans have to admit that Dookie was one of the most over-rated punk albums of all time. Green Day are only big because of a handful of safe songs they've done that where picked up by commercial radio and television. Dookie only sold more copies then Smash because it was commercially safe, and just because it came out first does not mean that the Offspring "road Green Day's cottails to popularity"

Now looking at the most recent efforts from each band. Splinter is a good album, but it wasn't made for commercial radio so therefore it didn't sell very well. American Idiot, I am forced to admit, is also a good album that was made so that commercial radio would pick it up and give the band a big hit album to bring them back into the spotlight. Green Day have to be some of the biggest sellouts in "punk" music, who make commercially friendly music for the radio and don't really give a shit want anyone else thinks. One band is in it for the money making commerical music, and one band is in it for the music making music that they think their fans would enjoy.

DUde, the reason greenday sold more albums back in the day was because they were on a major label!!!!!! The offspring were still on epitaph!!!! and that was before epitaph was even really succesful!!!!!! this was when pennywise and bad religion were still coming out with low budget recordings!!!!! of course green day was gonna sell more records! i mean... i like green day a lot, but they didnt just come out of nowhere in the same way the offspring did.
