View Full Version : Pregnant?
OffspringHead

My girlfriend and I have sex about 4-5 times a week. We always use a condom and are as careful as can be.
For the three years I've been with her she has had very irregular periods. She gets her period about 3-5 times a year. She hasn't had her period in a while and today she said her nipples were sore and she had cramps and felt bloated and broke out a little on her face. Is that her period coming or could she be pregnant?
And if a girl has a period that only comes a few times a year does that make it easier or harder for a girl to become pregnant?
These could be stupid questions but whatever.

Is there a reason she's not on the pill?

Depending on her age and how long she's been menstruating...she should really have regular periods by now. She should really go to the gynecologist...

Ohhh boy, I know that fucking scenario all to well. Glad I'm done with relationships or having standard sex. I'll stick to oral and making out thank you ever much.
Anyway, here's hopeing your girlfriend isn't pregnate OffspringHead. If she isn't you really need to let her know of the pill even though some women or girls believe to be everything against their feminity or whatever. It's pretty important especially if you're having sex 5 times a week.

She should do a pregnancy test - then you'll know for sure.
But I dont see why its important to mention how many times You two have sex....show off!!!

^ Yes, I know. I am horrible.
Honestly though, if you are seriously worried, do some pregnancy tests. In fact, even if you aren't that worried, it might be worth a try, just so there are no "surprises"
In the future, don't go into thorough detail bout your sex life on an online forum, ok? :p

Great advice offered so far.
(a) That sounds like her period to me...
(b) Going on the pill should make her periods regular. And is obviously a way better method of BC than just condoms.

She could very definitely be pregnant. You see, regular sex (4-5 times a week) is very simillar to a medieval siege. A condom is very much like that huge firey tree that they use to break down the castle door while the sentries pour down nasty stuff on you from on top of the walls.
My point is, it's inevitable. At some point you will break down the doors and a condom will no longer be effective. You'll both have grown an immunity over condoms. I'm surprised no one's ever told you this. This would also explain her strange symptoms, her body is undergoing changes as it adapts to your unnatural method of preventing babies. Nature always finds a way.***
Now you have to be especially careful with sex because she'll be much more prone to becoming pregnant. Find an alternate means of birth control, but don't use it too much or you might adapt again!
***three stars for anyone who recognizes that movie quote.

Sounds like a period. Just hormone changes.
(btw, irregular periods and breaking out are symptoms of PCOS -google it- not saying she has it but mild forms of it are fairly common and can often be controlled by just going on the Pill)

People who rely solely on condoms for protection depress me...

I don't know why people knock those that rely just on condoms. In some areas of the country, it is the ONLY thing you can get. Or, some women can't go on hormonal birth control for whatever reason. It's better than relying on advil, jumping up and down, or douching with Coca-Cola...or not using anything at all.

She's gonna go on the pill I think. The only thing is she doesn't think she can quit smoking cigarettes. So it's gonna take some time.
And a condom is better than using nothing. The only way they fail is if they break. And that's only happened to us once about a year ago. If they're used properly and they don't break, then what does it matter if you use a condom?

Being a person who can't take hormonal birth control, I realize the difficulties that present. But I've learned that they aren't enough. I'm really conservative about sex as it is. I make jokes about sex and all that, but I feel that just the use of a condom isn't enough. I take that from my own personal experiences and the experiences of other people I know. Have sex all you want, but don't expect a condom to work 100% of the time. They have an average effectiveness at like 85% and if you have sex as often as you say you do, then thats at least 30 times a year that it won't be doing its job (in theory though i know statistics don't work like that. but you get the picture)

If you can't take hormonal birth control, then I hope you plan to get a copper IUD and not a Mirena. If that's the case, you need to REALLY research the side effects of the copper ones...
Anyway...yeah, condoms do not always work. Human error, bad batch, etc. Condoms are much more effective if you correctly know how to use them (and not just a half-assed guess on how to put it on and whatnot). But that can happen with anything. I really don't think it's fair to say people that use condoms only "depress" you, as though they are somehow ignorant or lesser beings.
*Note, I'm not saying this because I'm a "condom only" person. I'm not. However, I also know someone that got pregnant while on hormonal birth control, perfect use. So, that can go awry as well...

wrong. even if they don't break and they're used perfectly, condoms will fail about two percent of the time. and by fail, i mean sperm will be found in the vagina. at a failure rate of two percent and your fucking rate, sperm should find itself in your girlfriend's cooch about once every ten to thirteen weeks. while the amount of sperm would be low, it would still be present and thus a risk. since you've been together for three years, this makes about fifteen times there was a possibility of pregnancy.
in summery: congratulations!

I'm about as certain as I can be that that's from Jurassic Park.
Or is that life will find a way?
Less importantly, babies are cute. What do you have against them?

Just to go back to the original thread topic and answer a question. If she doesn't get her period, then in those months that she skipped, it is unlikely that she ovulated, thus meaning she can't get pregnant at those times. Just to clear that up for you.

Any doctor. The FDA. The makers of hormonal pills. Increases the risk of blood clots.

Smoking is bad for you and the general doctor's recommendation is not to smoke due to the long-term risk of cancer and other such badness, but the link between the pill, smoking, and blood clots is pretty short-term. You know a lot of people who smoke and take the birth control pill at the same time? Then you know a lot of people who are at significantly higher risk of having a stroke in the next few years.
