View Full Version : Rock Band 2/Guitar Hero World Tour

I just saw that both games are out now when I was at Target yesterday. First of all, the song lineup on both games looks really good (the GH one is SO much better than GH3's was). But I can't help but feel like Guitar Hero totally ripped off Rock Band. I mean, I know they're just games... but I thought Guitar Hero was supposed to be GUITAR hero... not ROCK BAND.

I also hate that, if I want to get GHWT, in order to play the drums, I have to buy a new set, because my Rock Band ones won't work with it. I'm also wondering about the cross-compatibility of the guitars and microphone. It's just getting ridiculous. I don't want all these fake instruments in my house just to play some video games.

At this point, I'm thinking I'll probably just get the Rock Band 2 game and say fuck it to the GH series...

Anyway, has anyone played either game yet? Reviews?

Definitely go with Rock Band 2. I've played both, and for some reason, Guitar Hero World Tour didn't feel like much fun when I was playing it. Also, something about the graphics and the interface just makes it seem...amateurish. And of course Rock Band 2 has better note charts.

What do you mean by note charts? Do you mean the pseudo musical staff they give you? What's the difference?

You know, since I got Rock Band, I've not had fun playing GH. I put it in once in a while (I have 1 and 3), but I get bored after like a song... I dig Rock Band so much more- and I mean just the whole thing. Even just playing guitar. I'm not sure why that is... besides that I think GH3 has shit for songs.

By note charts, I mean that the Rock Band songs play more "accurately" than the newer Guitar Hero songs. Rock Band is fun, and sometimes challenging. Guitar Hero (especially 3) was difficult only for the sake of being difficult.

^I disagree. Rock Band is just WAY too easy, to the point where it gets boring so much sooner. I started out with the RB Series, too.

To me, these games are all about the songs, and Guitar Hero: World Tour just has way better and more fun songs than Rock Band, Rock Band 2, or Guitar Hero 3. It's fucking awesome.

Throw in the Music Studio and other neat little features and I just think it's a much better game, yet I still find all these music rhythm games so similar that they're barely worth comparing (unless I actually have to for the sake of conversation, lawlz).

I see you haven't played Rock Band 2.

To me, difficulty doesn't matter in Rock Band. I have fun no matter what song I'm playing. That's probably part of the reason I'm usually the bassist.

Although I do sort of agree about the song selection. One thing I didn't like about Rock Band 2 is that it had so many songs from bands I haven't heard of, compared to any other rhythm game out there.

i like guitar hero better than rock band. Isn't the offspring song tkaa on gh world tour?

No, it's not. In fact, Rock Band (the series, including DLC) has Hammerhead, Come Out And Play, Self Esteem, Gone Away, and Pretty Fly (For A White Guy)

I got GH:WT first thing on friday morning and I've been pretty much playing nonstop since then. I love it! Great setlist, no more annoying shit on the fretboards, great graphics and great fun! I had three friends here last night, we had a few beers and played for about six straight hours.

The only negative thing I can say about the game is that I didn't find much challenge in the guitarcharts, but that's ok.
Drums are really fun, I've almost finished the career on medium :).

Finally a topic which I can really discuss.

Having played both RB2 and GHWT I found that rock band was definately the better. Not only because it has more Offspring songs :D but in general it just beat GHWT. The graphics were better, personally the song choice was better (although this varies from person to person) and the DLC destroys that on the GH series.

I tend to have much more fun playing RB aswell, the GHWT guitar and drums just didnt feel right to me, I guess playing a load of rock band contributed to this though.

Also on a side note I just set the 8th highest score ever for gone away :D its on the 360 gamertag: Dex and Noodles.

I totally love me some Rock Band 2. Like a few others have said, I just couldn't get into GH:WT like with RB. Plus, the amount of DLC available is a for sure win. Don't forget down the line we might get some more Offspring tracks. (Here's hoping for "You're Gunna Go Far, Kid" in the next track pack)

All in all, I recommend Rock Band 2 out of all the others. GH is great, but they just don't have that touch that the Rock Band games have had. Besides you can even import your songs from Rock Band 1 into the new game, which I still haven't done cause I am that lazy.

I'd probably feel the same way if I tried Rock Band since I've been playing GH for so long.

I played GH for a looong time. Then around Christmas last year I picked up Rock Band. I changed my mind right then, the guitar took some getting used to but thats about it.

All fair points and differing opinions are great, but one quick comment: do people actually give a fuck about graphics in a music rhythm game?! Half the time you spend is staring at the fretboard chart shit.

I will say that I HATE the presentation of GH: WT on the Wii...you can NOT read the artist and song title at ALL as the song begins.

I was thinking the same thing about graphics... wtf.

I like the guitar for rock band wayyy better than the guitar for GH, by the way. Does anyone know if I can use either the Guitar Hero 2 guitar or the Rock Band guitar for GHWT? I figure the Rock Band guitar will work with Rock Band 2... but what about the new GH?

I will say one (or another; I'm not really keeping track) thing about GHWT: they made the drummer animations better, as in it doesn't look like a Chuck E. Cheese robot like he did in GH3.

And there's a controller compatability chart somewhere on the internets. I'll find it later.

I think what I'm gonna do is get Rock Band 2 for Xmas... cause I just need to get the game and don't need anything additional... then maybe later I'll get GHWT, because I definitely need drums for that and possibly a guitar... and possibly a mic, which would be retarded. If I needed to get ALL that stuff, there's no way I'll get it.

Just stick with Rock Band 2, you won't regret it. Seriously, Harmonix (the people who made the original 2 Guitar Heroes) are known for quality and content. There's pretty much no need to buy both.

Also, the graphics do matter to a certain extent, in my opinion. I mean, it's all about presentation as well. I don't want a rhythm game that looks like crap. Why? Because it's harder on the eyes.

There's a controller compatability chart somewhere on the internets. I'll find it later.

Apparently that chart's all wrong. So, don't bother looking for it.

Oh shit, the guitar I already have will be compatible with Rock Band 2, and all the songs from Rock Band 1 are available for free? The next few months of my life just changed.

Actually, I think the Rock Band 1 songs are like $5 to download, but it's still worth it.

To be honest I do. If I had the choice I would rather have better graphics than worse graphics. Plus I'm one of those people who likes to make thier character look just like them, rock band is better for that.

To be fair though GH does have its charm. I played GH3 for ages and I was really skeptical about getting Rock Band.

the only thing that won't cross over from rockband to world tour is the guitars.

So... I have the GH2 guitar (the Gibson?), and all the stuff for Rock Band 1. Looks like I'm set for Rock Band 2, but for GHWT, I need a new drum kit... doesn't say anything about microphones, though.

Whoops, I misread it. Sweet! I might as well get both, then, if I don't need additional equipment!!! Thanks! I'm gonna wait til they're not $50, though...

The red pad on my drumkit stopped working yesterday but I'm getting a new kit from Gamestop tomorrow. I've finished the guitar career on both hard and expert so I guess I'm gonna start playing bass now. I tried singing on the medium level yesterday and it went not so great, haha.

Like I said before, the setlist is awesome!

lol, vocals is the only thing I've beaten the game on expert. With drums, I'm about 2/3 through the game on hard... and on guitar I'm about 2/3 done on expert. My problem is that, if I can't beat a song on the first try, I get annoyed and turn it off... haha.

Woah thats impressive! My vocal capabilities stop at medium/hard. The only songs I can 5* on expert vox are the offspring songs.

My guitar career is complete and im on tier 3 drums expert.

Edit: Endless setlist 2, anyone know how long it takes? Im going for it with a friend on friday night but I still wanna go out so I have no idea what time to start.

Well, it's 86 songs in total. It'll take at least 6 hours I believe.

Hey, I've completed every career! It's time to get ready for drums on expert. Singing? Well... I sang on medium for most part but a few times I had to step down to easy and ONE time (on hey man, nice shot) I could only pass the song on beginner! Haha! But I believe my pitch control have improved a little bit.

Good luck with drums on expert, that shit is hard!

Im bad with the singing as well, I usually sing on medium but I did 100% come out and play on expert vocals. :)

After nine and a half hours of play the endless setlist 2 is complete! :D. Me and my band mate are famous among 400 or so people at my college.

Plus I just ordered some Kikey (our band name) t-shirts, posters and actiopn figures! I have my own damn action figure!

Is there anywhere you can see the setlists for the games or do you have to unlock them with play or something?

Interesting, I just played GH3 and GH:WT. I only played guitar and bass on Expert, but that's tough enough for me. My favourite song on GH:WT is Spiderwebs, it's really awesome to play on any instrument.
