My name's Andrei [pronounced like AndrEi] and I like it, it can't be changed into some superlame form like most Russian male names. Thank you, mom and dad!
P.S.: shanna, could you please edit the first post and ask people to introduce their name and then say their opinions? It would be just so much better.

Jesse and Andrei are very hot names. Not kidding. :)
I like my name. Karin. Its spelled that way so that my nickname could be Kari. I rarely get called Kari though. Mostly my nickname is KD. I like my name because most people don't spell it that way. Of course that means I have to correct everybody on spelling it. I'm tired of hearing "carin' Karin". URGGH!

I like my name, it's Irish, and nobody on the internet outside of Ireland and maybe Britain ever knows how to pronounce it when they see it spelled.
Ciaran. Unfortunately I'm sick of trying to explain how it's pronounced, all I'll tell you is that it starts in a C, not an S, so stop pronouncing it so.
It's a fairly common name here though, in my street of 15 houses, theres 4 Ciaran's. In my old job there was a whole row of us, that was fun. And I was in a band with two other Ciaran's once.

I love my first and middle name (Brianna Joy), but I hate my last name. My last name was Krueger until I was 8... I liked that last name, and wish I had never changed it. But my step dad took legal adoption of me and made me change it. My last name is a shortened version of a Czech last name. My step dad didn't like his last name (Kacerovsky) and thought it was too long, so he got it shortened. I would've preferred Kacerovsky or Krueger over my last name. However, my real dad's last name was Beebe, and I'm really glad that's not my last name.
The only thing I don't like about my first and middle name is the initials...

Also, I hate being called Bri (though I'm starting to like it again because not everyone calls me it anymore), but I don't care if people pronounce my name like "Bree-ANN-ah" or like "Bree-AWHN-ah". I think my mom calls me the former, but I almost like the latter more. haha.

My name is Randy, and I absolutely love it. I love saying it, I love writing it, and I love hearing other people say it. I don't know why, but maybe partly because it's not short for anything. Just Randy. Barring that short time from 1997-2000, when Austin Powers was at its biggest, I've had no problems. Plus, I've only ever known one other Randy besides my dad (well, and my high school math teacher, who also shared my last name). Now, as common as my last name, Williams, is, I really enjoy that, too.
Ciaran. Unfortunately I'm sick of trying to explain how it's pronounced, all I'll tell you is that it starts in a C, not an S, so stop pronouncing it so.
I really like how that's pronounced. A lot better than I thought.

I hate my middle name, too. I thought about going by RC for a while, but then I'd have to tell people what my middle name was. Haha, I often tell people I don't have one.
I would've preferred Kacerovsky or Krueger over my last name.

My first name, as most of you know, is Gustavo. And I just love it. I love the way it sounds. Even though it has some Swedish or Greek roots. It sounds so Portuguese-ish.
And I just love Portuguese-ish names. Here in Brazil, it's become common to put foreign-ish names on children, and that just sucks, in my opinion. I very much like names written and said in a Portuguese-ish way.
As for my last name, Cruzeiro. As most of you don't know. I love it too, it also sounds very Portuguese-ish, and Cruzeiro is a very rare family. There aren't many Cruzeiros out there. I'd say that there are not more than 60 Cruzeiros in the entire world.

I love my name. Zoe means "life" in Greek, if I remember correctly. I just hate it when people misspell it as Zoey, because of the way it's pronounced. At my elementary school, they used to give you a card on your birthday, and the secretary spelled it Zooey. Her explanation? She wanted to spell it that way.

I find it amazing. My name is really common. Not as common as Katie (with variations on the spelling), but because its spelled 'Karin' and not the usual 'Karen', no one who sees it written out wants to pronounce it correctly. They always want to pronounce like you would pronounce Corrinne (said core-in). Thats incredibly annoying!

haha. That's pretty weird. My first name doesn't normally get mispronounced (except a lot of Europeans have a hard time with it and tend to pronounce the "i" like an I instead of like an E.... like in Brian.
The real annoyance is that nobody can pronounce my last name right. Kase. It's pronounced how it looks. If it started with a C, nobody would have a problem... but you put the letter in front that always makes the same sound, and nobody can say it. It's always "Casey", "Cassie" or "Cass". Nobody ever says "Case".
Per it's only annoying for people to mispronounce stuff when it seems like they go out of their way to be wrong... rather than making the most logical choice, like in the situation of my last name and Lost's first name.

I don't mind my first name. Thibault works for me. I identify with it. What else do I need?
I think my last name is sweet though. When the French assimilated Brittany, some of the more complex Briton last names got shortened or people were forced to pick new ones. My family's got shortened from Ker Varec'h to Kervarech. It could have been worse. My grandfather on my mother's side never had a Briton last name - he was just born Le Sauce, which to anyone in Brittany is a clear indication that your original last name just wasn't process-worthy in French.

When it comes to You and me, it's very possible:D
a name grows on you. like, you can determine the reputation of a name by your personality that people connect to it. I like my name, independent of any reputation I have. I'm just sorry I gave the name "Isabella" such a blonde chaotic reputation. I'm sorry for all the other Isabellas in this world that are greatly organised & ad rem. I'm just not, but I carry my name with pride, because it's a great name & people know me by that name, which is great & basically everything's great about my name.
then again, I believe that even all my down sides are in the end in my favour, at least add humanity & humour to my character & personality, so my self-confidence & feelings of self-worth are totally okay. I guess that helps in the process of carrying a name & a character/persona/personality, even if it isn't flawless.
I was actually wondering, is your name from German or Persian roots? Because you weren't born in Germany, right?... but Nina is such a common girls' name in Germany. I assume it's not a Persian name, but I'm a bit confused since I thought you're not originally German.

Nina is a pretty popular name in the Netherlands too. I can't imagine it's that exotic for German terms. I don't know a lot of girls that go by the name "Nina", but the ones I do know, including the Nina I know on here, are pretty damn cool.
edit; when I was a kid - & this is for you, Nina - I intended to write a book & all my stories had a Nina in it, because I thought it was the name of a dreamer, an idealist & perfectionist. & every story of mine needed one of those. I don't know if you reckon that positive, but to me those are the best compliments there are.

I don't know if you reckon that positive, but to me those are the best compliments there are.
Yeah, I figured it was more of a Western European thing, at least... I was mostly curious about if it's from her Germanness or her Persianness.
There's a kid in my Tuesday class this semester named Nina. It's kind of an odd name to hear for kids here.
Nena, however is awesome.

I'm Shelby. I was neutral about my name for most of my life until recently, when I realized how much it can be toyed around with to make super neat nicknames (thanks, Mike!). With friends, it's commonly shortened to "Shelbs", or as Mike likes to do, adding fun things on to the end. "Shel" is used with anyone and everyone in my family. But strangely enough, no one at all outside of my family uses it.
My middle name is probably the most common American middle name for girls, Marie. I like it, it goes well with the rest of my name, but then there's hardly a girl's name that doesn't go well with it.
Gonzales is the last name. With an 'S', not a 'Z'. I cannot tell you how irritated I get when it's spelled "Gonzalez". My last name is nothing particularly special, and is pretty common, too. But it could be worse, so I'm happy with it.
I was actually wondering, is your name from German or Persian roots? Because you weren't born in Germany, right?... but Nina is such a common girls' name in Germany. I assume it's not a Persian name, but I'm a bit confused since I thought you're not originally German.
Anyway, I like your name a lot (though I never understood how to say your last name, haha). However, I understand why you wouldn't like your first name, especially because it IS so common there.
Actually, I think Nina originally comes from Katharina, which is a Russian name. I've been told this, I never looked that up myself. But it would explain why the name Nina exists in Iran. There are a lot of people with the name Nina in Iran! I was born in Germany; my parents actually drew my name, another option was Yasmin. I guess they chose common names so I wouldnt have a hard time in Germany. A very wise decision.
But I must admit that I dont know many Ninas. I might just be unlucky though ;P

Nope, Russian version of Katharina is Ekaterina [pronounced with soft E's like [Yekatyerina]] and is commonly shortened into Katya (or Katja in the rest of the world).
Nina is a different name which isn't related with Ekaterina. http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Nina .

I just want to go on record as saying my name is cool as shit.
Per = after the Apostle, (and he was the cool apostle).
Ulrich = comes from old German, like the Visigoth (or was it ostrogoth, one of the germanic tribes) chieftains was called Alrich. '.rich' comes from the term 'rich' but also 'reich' which translates to empire or power. It's cool.
The only downside is that in Denmark it's only hicks who use both their names. So I just go by Per.

I hate it when people call me Johanne (my grandpa has always called me like that and I always thought it was because he didn't know how to spell my name properly or what my real name was). But I don't mind being called Jo or Jojo. Jojo was better when I was a kid, now I prefer Jo. And then of course there's the way people pronnounce it with or without the h, normally you don't pronnounce the h!
Even if I was named after a Bob Dylan song "Visions of Johanna" in which he pronnounces the h!

Jonathan. I don't like it. No one in America says 3-syllable names so it gets shortened to "Jon," which I accept, but it sounds really boring. I'm cool with it because I don't have any better ideas for what to call me. Just don't fucking spell it with an h. "Jonathan" is a totally different name than "John." I could insist on being called Jonathan but that would make people hate me. See, I know that it's not the same name as "John," but an amazing amount of stupid people don't, so in their eyes, it would be the same as someone named Christopher insisting on not being called Chris. If such a Christopher existed, I would judge said Christopher to be an uptight douche. Since I do not wish to be judged as an uptight douche, I let people call me what they want as long as it's not John with an h. I rant about this way too much.

Heh if my name was as simple as 'peer' don't you think my mother could pronounce it? :p Anglicized I accept 'Peer', but generally I just accept whatever the local vernacular would be, Peter, Pierre, Pedro, Pyotr, and for people who knew me in the states 'Peer'.
The thing is the Danes swallow the 'r' sound, it's still there but buried in your throat, and it sort of effects the other letters. It's very hard to describe.

The r sounds quite a bit like the Germanic r with the pseudo diphthong going on. I hope this will make me able to hear your name the right way when I see it, rather than hearing/pronouncing it like the American "per". :P
you swallow the 'r' in Per's name & after the P, there's some sort of 'i'-sound. so last tuesday we came to the conclusion basically Per's name is pronounced as pie.;):p
Brianna; the two times I met Per, I didn't go through the trouble of trying to pronounce it correctly. I just say "Per" the way you guys would probably say it too. (hah, like the first part of "Paris", which got very confusing every time someone at the meet-up was talking about Per & said "Per is..") I probably can't entirely pull it off anyway (though Per said the way I pronounced it the time I actually tried was close) & I guess I always think of him as "Per", you know, the way I read it. I can't help it. that just happens when you learn to know each other through written messages.

This is really amusing to me considering the source.
I have admitted my wrongs MANY TIMES, I have accepted to CHANGE, etc. I don't see how refusing to agree with someone's opinion on fucking cellphones means that I don't accept other people's opinions. I'm entitled to disagree with something once in a while, no I WON'T AGREE WITH EVERYTHING THAT'S SAID TO ME but I will USE REASON TO EVALUATE WHETHER OR NOT I AGREE WITH THE POINTS BEING MADE. Sometimes I may disagree and it's my right, it's not because I don't care. I have listened to what you had to say and made that decision. Similarly, I can agree. After argumentation with wheelchairman about needs/wants, he apparently decided to classify me as someone who never agrees with others and only sticks up to his own opinion, because in that particular instance I didn't agree with him. He's being ridiculous and way too judgemental. If you're going to follow his opinion of me, you're being ridiculous.
This is a constant problem around here where people are too retarded to establish fair opinions about people and always judge them. This will probably only lead to these people, including myself, to quit trying to be reasonable with you.
