View Full Version : Predict 50 Cent's first-week album sales

Want to get depressed? Go to Billboard's website on Wednesday next week and find out how many albums 50 Cent sold in his first week.
I wouldn't be surprised if his new crapfest went platinum in a week. There are so many brainwashed MTV junkies (mostly teenage girls and 14-year-old boys) who will rush out and buy it because, according to MTV, it's great. Oh, and also thanks to MTV's obnoxious overplaying of "Boulevard of Sellout Dreams", Green Day will be in the Top 5 for another six months or so. I just love the music industry these days, don't you?
Anyway, I'm predicting at least 800,000 first week. I've lost all hope in mankind.

Um...why? Unlike 50 cent, Nirvana didn't suck. MTV actually used to give airtime to good bands like Nirvana 14 years ago. I don't see what's so "hilarious" about it. MTV has sucked total ass for years. About 90% of their schedule is made up of crappy original reality shows. The remaining 10% is roughly the same 20 horrendous music videos day after day.

Wow, strong argument. You sure proved a lot there...
MTV hasn't changed a damn bit. They brainwashed weak minded, impressionable teens into liking Nirvana, and now they're doing it with 50 Cent. The only difference is that you actually fell for their shit back then, but not now. They played shit music then and they're still doing it now.
Thing is, any schmo can pick up a copy of "Spin" magazine or some other pretentious rag and just spew out shit like "Man, Nirvana was SO influential!" and feel intelligent. It's ridiculous, and it lets people think that they can just say "Nirvana didn't suck!" and feel like they actually proved something.
I dunno why I bother though, cause everyone knows this isn't going anywhere...

Firstr of all, I never said Nirvana was "influential". I like their music and, apparently, you don't. I was 2 back when Nirvana hit it big, so your accusation of my "falling for their shit" is a bit off.
Second, we could argue all day about what music is shit and what isn't. But I think you're in the wrong when you say MTV hasn't changed a bit. They have changed a lot, and in my opinion, for the worse. They barely ever play videos anymore, and what they do play is almost all rap/pop.
Maybe you shouldn't start slinging mud in threads where you don't even address the topic. Think about it.

Never said you said they were influential; that was just an example of a common Nirvana fan. You were 2 when they hit it big, so you didn't fall for MTV's shit? So how can you can talk about how MTV gave time to good bands back then, and how they have changed so much when you were only a baby back then? You can't claim ignorance on one subject and continue to talk about that same subject as if you know what you're talking about.
By the way, I actually DO love Nirvana; I just don't delude myself into thinking that my taste in music is so superior that I have to make threads about artists that I don't even like. Think about that.

So how can you can talk about how MTV gave time to good bands back then, and how they have changed so much when you were only a baby back then?
Because, from reading about the bands I like, I've learned that MTV used to give fair more airtime to the kind of bands I enjoy (Alice In Chains, Nirvana, Metallica, etc.) as opposed to today, when they barely play any rock, and what they do play is (in my opinion) crap. You don't have to constantly watch a channel for 13 years to know that it's changed over time. Maybe MTV has always played some crap, but I'm fairly certain that they weren't nearly as bad back in the mid-to-early 90s.
By the way, I actually DO love Nirvana;
Oh, good.
I just don't delude myself into thinking that my taste in music is so superior that I have to make threads about artists that I don't even like. Think about that.
I never said my taste in music was superior. I simply expressed my dislike of 50 Cent, and invited others to guess how many records he'll sell in one week. I hope I haven't grievously offended you in the process.

Er, I don't like much rap, and I have plenty of friends who do, so I'm not really all that biased, but it DOES make me mad about how most rappers (I'll use 50 Cent since we're on the subject of him) try to be tough and "gangsta". I mean, just listen to the names of some of 50 Cent's songs.
P.I.M.P? Wanksta? What the hell is a WANKSTA?

Wanksta is a slang term for the slang term wangstER which is a white gangster. My previous line makes me want to shoot MTV. People associate them with the stuff in their music videos, how they live in the ghetto, got a hard life but make the best out of it while bitching about it, etc., when in real life he's probably got a house 10 times the size of mine.

Wow. Seeing people talk about things they know absolutely nothing about is usually funny, but this time it's just sad. And the saddest part is that dirtybird is usually such a smart dude.
Wanksta does not mean "white gangster". It means "fake gangsta". And he probably lives in a mansion NOW, but you know absolutely nothing about the ghetto or where he grew up, so stop embarassing yourself on that front.
Hell, why aren't the two of you criticizing the rock star drug addicts with numbingly depressing whiny lyrics (*cough*NirvanaPearlJamSoundgardenAliceInChainscou gh*) who are just as wealthy as those you ASSUMED were "fake gangsters"?

It originally was shortened from wannabe-ganster, hence the 'w' at the beginning, but around here it's used to mean a white wannabe gangster specifically. My audience differentiation (word?) didn't occur to me at the time of posting.. sorry.
I'm not complaining about the whining, either, I'm just saying that most people associate them with that and believe it's true. And with all the MTV appearances and jewlry and cars and other stuff they own, how could they not be loaded? And about Nirvana, as a band you write lyrics to fit your style of music, and I bet if you asked most grunge fans what they're favorite parts of a song were, lyrics would be far down on the list.

Apology accepted on the first half there.
As for the rest, you don't understand the rap mentality. And the truth is, regardless of where you are at a certain point in your life, ALL the events from your past have played a role in your views on current events. Example: A rapper grows up in a basement, poor, on welfare, no father, blah blah blah. It's all changed now, and yes, they're rich as fuck which is what they've always wanted. Are they supposed to rap about nothing BUT being rich from now on, or talk about their lives as a whole? I dunno about you, but if I'm rapping, it makes more sense to me to rap about being poor in the past, rich now, and hell, EVERYTHING in my life. Which happens in every genre of music; it's just shown in different ways. (like the grunge examples we discussed)
The same way half the youth of today eats up the "bling bling gangsterism" or whatever is the same way the other half eats up whatever they're fed from their rock bands. The rock kids just need to get their heads out of their asses and stop being so sarcastic and snobby.

You can't tell me that every single rapper that raps about having a bad life has actually had one until he went platinum.
And about the rock thing, I am not exposed to ANY big rock fans. If you can give me examples I'll agree, but that's not to say it applies to me.

And why the hell not?! This comment here shocks me. Where are you from, and have you ever seen the kinds of neighborhoods we/they live in? (And I don't mean passing through in a car, lol) There's no way they are tapping into these experiences that I myself have lived through and/or seen without actually living it...trust me, I can tell.

I don't think it applies to you either. But if I give you examples of people like that, it'd be useless, because of course I'd give you people that would prove me right. When you meet more and more big rock fans on your own, you'll see what I'm talking about though!

1. The main point I'm trying to get at is that people think they're in that situation NOW. And they think that's COOL. I know plenty of people.. people who want to be rappers and those who don't.. who say they live in the ghetto when I know they don't. I may be profiling because of them, though, I'll admit. On a side note, it's sort of like how you can go into Abercrombie and see ripped or faded (or both) jeans for $130.. also, they'll 'pre wrinkle' shirts for you..
2. I suppose..
EDIT: I don't know why, the quote thing was messsing up, though.
