What bands have you discovered/listened to thanks to a friend of yours?
Auf der Maur. Thanks to a friend of mine, Carmen, who sent me some mp3 of the Smashing Pumpkins, James Iha, and Auf der Maur. I love "followed the waves"
Matchbook Romance. A friend of mine told me about them, but i never heard their songs, so i soon forgot. But then, Hysteria (yeah, this bbs' Hysteria) posted something about them at the S2A forums, and passed me the link to their site. Listened to them.. and i like them.
Face Tomorrow. I really don't remember how... but I DO remember it was my beloved e-boyfriend BuddyHolly<3who introduced them to me!!!!! :D

Queens of the Stone Age:
My big Sis who showed me the "No One Knows" video.
HIMSA:
My good friend Danny, I didn't care for any metal music until he made me listen to them.
There's more, but I am lazy and don't want to back-track to for into the past.
Descendents - 1565 on this board receives props.
AFI - Another internet friend.
Hmm... Other bands I've discovered through other bands or more or less by myself.

Looking through my playlist now, I *really* can't remember where I first heard a lot of them - I guess thats the joy of growing up with lots of friends where you're all discovering new bands in a new scene. Though times have changed now, I generally find out about bands on various forums now and checking them out myself. I also have a bad knack of getting into bands after i've seen them live and not enjoying it first time round, or when I could have gone but didn't and then they split.....typical. Anyway, the best bands that were recommended to me....
The Living End - by some guy who was one of the first people on my msn oh so (4) years ago - the fun of making random friends on chatrooms...
Muttleys Dastardly Skam - a localish band who I only got to appreciate after they split, but at least I managed to see them once - some sublime duel female vocals in the vein of DHC, but thrown over a mixture of ragga/ska. My friend had sent me one of their songs years ago which Im glad I kept
and worthy mention must also go out to The Amphetameanies, its not often I actually buy the album of a band that friends recommend these days!

Umm...
My parents for all my classic rock.
My boyfriend for Radiohead, Pink Floyd.
Break, for a few bands... Spoon, Pavement... and some other bands that I've taken some interest in or more interest in than before...
My ex-bestest-internet-friend for SO, SO, SO, SO many amazing bands when I didn't know anything about music... including Social Distortion, the Clash, the Replacements, Husker Du, the Minks and so much more.
Break + 1565 for Nick Cave.
Two-Faced Bastard for 88 Fingers Louie.
Break + DG for Down By Law.
And of course, my ambitious self for a whole bunch of bands.

Everyones gonna hate me for this:
Sex Pistols, Dead Kennedys, and (not really, but sort of) the Ramones... Before like last year I didnt know any songs from any of these bands cuz I only listened to newer stuff... Now im really into the old stuff like the above and the Clash and stuff. And everything else is basically due to the awesomeness of Launch Radio and the local radio stations. And almost every tony hawk game before THUG 1.

I used to be a massive offspring fan and nothing else after americana, but then one of my friends told me about Green day. I wasnt interseted in them but then in the car on the way down to the country, my uncle told me to grab a couple of his cds for the ride. I grabbed Offspring americana and cos it was the only other one id heard of, i also grabbed green day's dookie. Ever since ive fallen in love with green day. And think they are the greatest band ever. Saw the live at the sydney superdome last week and they were awesome. Long live Green day!!
