well i think its an anarquist song that talks living your life.
Well the road he takes is life...
"I‘ve got nowhere to go
No place that I can call my own"...kind of he is lost, he just do what he wants but he does not got anything to call his own to feel fine

The past is gone, the future‘s blind

fisrt he says that he is leaving the past behind and all his bored chillhood
then he says he doesnt know what future will be like but he doesnt care he ones will find it out.
And then he will take the long way home...he will take the long way(life) for him not just survive.

here says that he will do what he wants, kind of"i wont be in fashion if i dont like it just to be like all people and dont be discriminated, cuz thats not life for"

here is the contradiction!, it says that he is feeling bad and he cares more feeling bad than fine, but what he traies to say is that you have to care more of the good things than of the bad.
