I would have put older systems if i knew they were so popular here
For now, the question is : Favorite System of Today

For a while I was tempted to vote Gamecube, simply for giving me the addiction-fest that was Super Smash Brothers Melee. If I want to play that game now, I have to set aside at least half a day for it. I swear, during the summer of 2003, if I didn't have to eat and sleep and smoke, I would have never stopped.

I played SSBM a lot too, just not that much. I play Halo 2 a lot, but it's boring unless you're playing multiplayer with like 10 other people.

I don't like to play too many computer games, because it's slow enough as it is. I only play FPS on consoles. I have more control with a controller than a keyboard/mouse. If i were to play a computer game, it would be real time strategy, or simulation. I always wanted to try The Sims 2.
TheUnholyNightbringer
05-02-2005, 08:39 PM
Strategy (Total War, C+C, Civilisation, Age of Empires, etc) should not be allowed on any console except the PC. IMHO.

Exactly. I've played Roller Coaster and every Sims game on XBOX, and they all sucked. Especially The Urbz, because they tried putting a console twist to it, and goals can be so freakin' annoying when you just want to be a sim.
TheUnholyNightbringer

Command and Conquer on Playstation is also mind-numbingly frustrating. I'm sorry, but C+C was not designed to be controlled by anything but a mouse. Controller just doesn't cut it.

Hah more control in an FPS with a controller? Bullshit. Mouse is superior.
Unholy - I play ludicrous amounts of melee. My friends and I waste so much time on that game. We've been into 2v2 with no items as of late. I've been trying to develop my Falcon skills because I'm getting too predictable with Roy.
PC wins so hardcore there's no point in even arguing.
I appologize for the discombobulation of this post.

Kirby is the MAN. Kirby will always be the MAN, if the slightly feminine and oversized MAN.
sKratch
05-02-2005, 10:10 PM
Kirby got nerfed so hard in melee. If original kirby fought melee kirby, there would be no match. They pooped on just about all his moves, most notably his arial down+a.

05-02-2005, 10:14 PM
Yeah, but they gave him the ability to walk with people in his mouth.
sKratch
05-02-2005, 10:15 PM
Yeah, kinda like how anyone can walk holding a barrel now. I liked it better when it was unique to DK. Taking someone down like that with Kirby (Jumping off with them in your mouth) is one of the most embarassing ways to kill someone. That and pooping them out as a Yoshi egg.

05-02-2005, 10:18 PM
I used to do that to people in the original Smash Brothers, all you had to do was suck in while dropping if they were close to the ledge. THen it was even more of an insult and I always used it for my final kill. Summer of 2001 I was undefeated.

05-02-2005, 10:20 PM
My friend is unbeatable with pikachu in the original. And he plays like such a fag. God I want to kill him in real life after playing smash against him. HIHWEuOWFHEW! Now in melee, pikachu can skull bash and still do the up+b afterwards to effectively come back from ANYWHERE. Fuck's sake...

PC Computer
Reasons: You get a huge selection of games
It will never go out of date, so you don't need to buy a new console every 3 years
The games are considerably cheaper [even new releases]
You can copy most games with ease [:D]
You can just upgrade your computer if necessary.
I can see why some people prefer consoles for games though. PC's can obviously have their problems with crashing, outdated hardware, but if you've got a decent PC like me and a fair bit of PC Knowledge, using a PC for games is the sensible choice.
And I have to agree, nothing will ever beat the PC multiplayer and online gaming. Multiplayer games on consoles [except for the legendary GoldenEye and party games like Mario Party] are just awful compared to multiplayer games on a PC.

05-03-2005, 03:52 AM
Ok, well the PC will eventually go out of date, but I mean for the last few years and the next few years I can't see them fading out too quickly. And manufacturers are bringing out new consoles every 2 or 3 years, its just expensive to keep up, especially if you want to keep with the latest games.
arak0r
05-03-2005, 03:54 AM
you dont get it.. pcs DO get out of date. thats where the upgrading comes in. if you dont upgrade, its out of date. so thus you still need to update.
Dr.Faustus
05-03-2005, 04:06 AM
I know that, but I'm looking at it from the view that if you have a reasonably new PC with a decent graphics card, you'll be OK for a while at least, and upgrading graphics and RAM for example isn't all that expensive.
I mean I bought my PC over 2 years ago, and it still runs the latest games fantastically well with no problems. I guess I'm not looking at it from the average pc owner's view.

it isnt more expensive? brand new top of the line graphics card = 400+ dollars. thats far more than a console. lets see, ram? what kind? pc2800? pc3200? or do you want top of the line for that too? soon enough youll want to upgrade to top processor, and thus youll need new mother board.. but then you might need new ram! ive built my own pc, and ive helped friends build their own as well. building a pc can be done, but a console is a helluva lot cheaper
Dr.Faustus
05-03-2005, 04:17 AM
I can see what you're saying, but I just don't see the point in buying console after console. Maybe I'm not looking at it from a gamer's view.
I personally only play games occasionally now, and if I do, its either a FPS or a RTS, which I find far easier on a PC than a console. Seeing as I'm not really into games anymore, I don't need a console. When I got my PC just over 2 years ago, I made sure I got one that was gonna be good enough for the best games for at least 3 years. By the time my graphics card can't cope at all with any new games, I'll probably have lost interest in computer games completely anyway. I'm 18 this year and play computers a maximum of 2 hours a week, when it used to more like that a day.
Next time I'll remember to look at it from other people's views. I guess because I haven't had any problems and it suits me to have a PC, then thats why I said what I said in my first post.

05-03-2005, 08:27 AM
Yeah I was rather nice with Falcon in the original as well. My roommate plays as Luigi these days, but he used to play as Dr. Mario. After I found out that the "misfire" on Luigi's forward+b was just a random 12.5% chance and had nothing to do with skill, I lost a lot of respect for the move. Although lots of times it fucks you over (shoots you over the whole level), sometimes it gets you a random kill.

That move is why I love him so much. That random 12.5% chance really makes my opponent question his next move when he sees me charging up. Is he/she gonna move? Run? Attack? What? If I'm playing against a gambler, I like my odds, because I do knock the fuck out of them quite often.

I also hate FF games... Not really sure why.
I was playing as Game and Watch today after handing two of my friends their respective asses (or did one get the other's ass?) with Roy, and I could win matches but I wasn't getting as many KO's as them. I think if I work on it, I can get decent with G&W. My fondest moment was a mid-air reversal of a firefox. Mmm it was tasty.

Wow, I feel sorry for the two people that voted for Gamecube. That obvously means either they don't have Xbox or Playstation 2, or they're too young to appreciate video games.
Anyways, I kinda figured Playstation 2 would be winning, even though I prefer Xbox. Playstation 2 has a much bigger audience, with the childish games from Gamecube, violent, more mature games from Xbox, and even some PC-material games.

Gamecube has some excellent games, especially if you enjoy fun multiplayer with friends. There's melee, double dash, gauntlet, xmen legends, time splitters (future perfect is so good) etc etc et al ad infinitum. There are better systems out there, but the GC is cheap and fun. Oh and you can't forget about Mario Party. I like the gamecube because I leave serious gaming to the PC. GC is there for me when I want to play with friends.

I find the GameCube to be really really good at button bashing we-all-feel-a-bit-mindless-today games, which of course is no bad thing. Off the top of my head I can think of Super Smash Brothers, Mystic Heroes and Gauntlet: Dark Legacy as the main contenders.

No offense, but only the young'ns fall for the oldest trick in the book, which is the "Nintendo only caters to kids" misconception.
Oh, and though it often comes down to the luck of the dice, I'm confident I can whoop almost anyone's ass in any Mario Party game ever, from 1-6 (though I specialize in parts 3 and 4, since they're the best ones). Holy god fuck, if only we could play THAT game online!

Mario Party 6 is the incarnation of Satan. It tends to involve no skill, but rather it goes something like this:
Oh boy I worked so hard to get to this star. Yes! Now I'm in first.
Oh, look, you've landed on this cool space and you get to spin things. What's that? I have to give something to you? A star? SWEET! AIJEIHAHIU!! HFAOUJO@IJ#*I AGJOIRO *breaks things*
Either that or someone just wins with 15 stars with the closest competition being 3. I've been the guy with 15 stars and it's so good :o However, the game is complete bullshit 90% of the time. That doesn't keep me from playing by any means though.
Double Dash has double the bullshit. Oh yay I've been winning the race for all 3 laps and the finish line is 5 feet from me. What's this? 18 spiny shells, 5 red shells, 52 green shells, a chain chomp and a giant banana have all seemed to land on me. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven people just passed me. Ow, my dignity.

Nintendo isn't going down the drain at all. Just the Mario Brother's games.
Once and for all, Super Mario does NOT belong in 3D.

I think Nintendo's problem is that they're so obsessed with innovation... that they tend to make good games shit. Like take that new Donkey Kong game that's coming out on the Game Cube.... it's a side-scrolling game, BUT, it uses the bongo drums as a the controller... which I thought wasn't the right way to go.
TheUnholyNightbringer

They place too much faith in making new things. They had to make the touchscreen on the DS and had to lay off on everything else. The PSP blows it away in features, graphics, memory, game length, game depth, and storage on the games. The only thing they have better than the PSP is battery life.
Homer
05-04-2005, 07:56 PM
yeah, I think that they should just make classic side-scrolling games and not worry about innovation.
That is what they have been best at the whole time.

You are correct. Mario never needed to be 3d. They just killed him in 3D. It truely sucks that they are obssesed with making a good game with Mario in 3D. it won't happen.
But if they hadn't made Mario in 3D, everyone would be saying 'Why don't you try making it in 3D?".
I guess they thought they would try it and give it a go. I agree, it was better before, in 2D, and maybe they should stop making more 3D versions, but if they hadn't have tried it everyone would have wanted them to.

Mine is the Super NES. If you think about it, it had some of the best games.
