That's right kids, I've got a linguistic anthropology exercise, and you need to answer some questions for me. I am doing a study of slang for a course, "Language, Culture, and Communication in the US". Please also list your age, and thank you in advance. Answer to any extent you wish:
1. What does slang mean to you?
2. Who, in your opinion, uses slang?
3. Where, in your opinion, is it most commonly used?
4. Why do people use it?
5. Why don't people just speak regularly?
6. Do you think it is a good or bad thing that slang exists in our society? Why?

1. What does slang mean to you?
Slang is creation of new words, or re-defining some words according to geography, culture, and time.
2. Who, in your opinion, uses slang?
Everyone except people who are trying to sound like they are better than the rest of us.
3. Where, in your opinion, is it most commonly used?
Everywhere, slang is equally common in every single place. Geographically I would say whereever business owners and whoever, congregate.
4. Why do people use it?
To vary their language.
5. Why don't people just speak regularly?
Because languages can't just stand still, they will always progress. That is the nature of the way we speak.
6. Do you think it is a good or bad thing that slang exists in our society? Why?
I think it's a great thing. Languages should never be stale.

Thank you sir. Much appreciated. If I could just have your age it'd be great, because I'm trying to compare slang use/perception across age groups.

Hum. I'm 22.
1 - Slang. Words and phrases that arent considered as common to everyone but rather common to a specified group of people (group = same place, same wealth, same age, same views, etc, etc).
2 - Everyone. I dont think there's anyone who uses only proper enlish and nothing of newly invented or selfmade words.
3 - By people who dont pay attention to proper grammar/vocabulary. Typically for youngsters and people who try to look cool.
4 - Lazyness, or they think its cool
5 - same as #4
6 - Part of the slang is good, coz there are new words that improve the language. Another part is bad, coz it weakens the language. It cant be said that slang is good or bad.
Thats all.

How can everyone use something that means nothing? To put it another way, how can you observe the use of something that is undefined.
