What Edmunds.com Says: Already a stunner in the looks department, a lighter and stiffer XK should have no trouble maintaining its allure.
What We Know: The replacement to the XK appeared in concept form with the moniker of "Advanced Lightweight Coupe" at this year's Detroit auto show. While Jaguar only displayed a coupe version, this vehicle will also be offered as a convertible when it officially goes on sale here in the spring of 2006. Actual production versions of both are scheduled to appear at this year's Frankfurt auto show. The Advanced Lightweight Coupe, the first real fruits of Ian Callum's tenure as the company's design director, represents a real departure from the traditional Jaguar look. The key details, from the ovular front grille to the athletic shoulders, could be taken as a harbinger of things to come from Jaguar. The aluminum frame, which should go great lengths to reduce the overall weight of the vehicle, houses an interior of elegant simplicity as well as a powerful V8 engine.
