130mph Tornado in Birmingham

Direct from BBC.co.uk

Twenty people were injured - three seriously - after winds of 130mph were recorded in Birmingham on Thursday.

Here are some of the pictures....

I heard about that, I asked a friend if the student ville (selly oak) was effected, but it wasn't thankfully.

That's good to hear it wasn't, http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/w...ds/4726643.stm
^ That's the link to all the info, plus there is some amatuer video footage taken of the Tornado. I never thought that we could get them so strong, but the weather has been doing a dodgy over the last couple of weeks so it's hardly suprising. But i hope we don't have anymore.

That actually makes me proud of solid English construction. It looks like most of those houses just lost their roof. In kansas, where I am now, when they get a tornado their silly wooden houses get demolished. I've tried explaining what I call The Three Pigs principle to them. I'm like "ok, you don't build with straw, well done. But, you know, there is something better than wood. The big bad wolf can still huff and puff and blow that down."

I seem to remember hearing once that England has one of the highest tornado percentages in the world but they are usually tiny or over water. I don't know if it's true or not.

We have small ones, not big ones like America and places like that. Yeah they mainly appear over sea...but we do get the odd rare big one. But it just shows our houses can withstand those sort of winds. But any stronger and they would have surley been reduced to rubble.

That doesn't look too good. Good thing those houses only lost their roof though, and they didn't get completely blown away.

Shhh, don't say that. Were you alive during that hurricane in the late 80's? That was some crazy shit. I remember it vaguely. My dad refused to miss work, and drove off with a chainsaw in his car to cut through the trees littering the road. No clue why, I'd call in to work with the slightest good reason.

A friend of mine was staying in a hotel on the road where it hit. She slept through it, ffs.

But I can't help feeling that Britain's hit a new low - now even mother nature hates us.

Apparantly there's loads of these every year but htey hit remote places so you don't notice. It's just probabilty that it was gonna hit a city and cause some damage sometime.
